RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR OFFICIAL

                                 COMPETITION DRILL OF THE MID-ATLANTIC

                                      ASSOCATION OF SHRINE MOTOR CORPS.

                                                          VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.

                                                                 November 2004

ELIGIBILITY

All member Corps of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Shrine Motor Corps in good standing; having registered

by June 5th, of each year. (However, late entries can be submitted for approval by the M.A.A.S.M.C. Officers

along with a non-refundable $25.00 late fee on top of the $10.00 entry fee for each event the unit wants to enter in).

Only one team per unit of division will be permitted to participate per class. After review by the Grievance

committee a Unit will be disqualified if any member from that unit acts in an un-masonic manner during competition

or during the awards luncheon.

 

SIZE OF COMPETITION AREA

Minimum requirements for the drill competition area will be 125’ X 225’. In the event this dimension is not available,

the Contest Committee will notify each member Corps at least 30 days in advance of the competitive drill.

 

A rule was voted on and passed. One rider will be allowed to put his foot down in the drill competition, if it pertains

to their maneuver and must be reported to the judges before the drill is started.

 

ENTRANTS

There will be a minimum of four (4) riders to constitute a team for drill competition. A member can participate in more
 than one classification in his
Shrine Center as long as not in the same class and same equipment and must stand
inspection in all classifications they participate in. All participate must have current MAASMC dues cards. A member

of a Home Shrine Center motor corps unit of which designed not to enter competition as a unit, or if his Home Shrine

Center unit was disbanded, or if he lived outside of reasonable commuting distance from his Home Shrine Center unit,

could run in competition with another Shrine Center Motor Corps unit of MAASMC, as long as he is an Associate

member of that Shrine Center and a dues paying member in good standing within that Shrine Center motor corps unit.

He must also have permission from his Home Shrine Center. If however his Home Shrine Center unit is in competition

and he is within reasonable commuting distance of his Home Shrine Center Unit he is required to run within his home

unit of which he is a member. All Officers, Drill Masters and Color Guards taking part in the contest are subject to judging

and all other requirements, including Corps membership. All competitors must wear an MAASMC patch on his uniform.

The vehicle used must be the vehicle used in the parade.

 

COLORS AND STANDARDS

Any corps may use its standards and/or colors in the contest. The use of any or all is optional and there will be no penalty

or credit given for their use or nonuse.

 

TROPHIES

Trophies shall be awarded per registration as follows:

            1 – 3 Teams – 2 Trophies

            4 – or more Teams – 3 Trophies

           

JUDGES

The judges shall be judges furnished by the M.A.S.A. Judges shall have absolute privacy during the contest and shall not

be approached by anyone except members of the Contest Committee. No scores shall be available or announced until the

Awards Meeting. No Corps member or spectator shall approach, interfere or question judges on the field at any time. The

inspection area MUST be clear of all personnel except the competing nobles while the unit is being judged.

 

CONTEST COMMITTEE

The Contest Committee will be appointed by the president of the M.A.A.S.M.C. and shall be members of the Association

 in good standing. The number of members comprising the committee shall be at the discretion of the President.

 

COMPETITION SCORING

1.      INSPECTION

A.     Personal Grooming (possible 5 points)

1.      Hair Cut – (neat & trim)

2.      Shave – (neat and trim)

3.      Shoe Shine – (no tennis shoes)

 

 

B.     Uniforms (possible 5 points)

1.      Neatness

2.      Position of Fez/Helmet

3.      Uniformity of Fez/Helmet

A.     Fez

1.      No two line Fez

2.      Only one different Fez (Head of Unit)

B.     Helmet

1.      DOT Approved

2.      Classes 1 through 15 only

4.      General Appearance

5.      Military Presentation

6.      Deduct one point for no Patch on Uniform

Any team arriving late for inspection will receive a one (1) point penalty. In the event of a rain delay, teams will compete

in their original order as directed by the officers.

Fez or Helmet may be worn for personal inspection prior to the competitive drill.

Vehicles must be presented or grouped by model year, beginning with earliest to latest models. (Two-Wheel classes.)

Ex. 82-82-82-83-83-84-84-85-86-86. Any unit with various sizes of vehicles or Mix/Match Class if applicable, must

compete in the class of the largest vehicle.

Drill Team is disqualified for omitting any maneuver.

In the event of a crash, it will be the responsibility of the field judge to determine the severity of the accident and

will either continue or stop the drill. There will be no restarts. Crash penalty (2 points). DOT approved Helmets must

be worn in all competitions and any time vehicle is moved in competition area if motor is running. Absolutely no electronic

communication on the drill field of any kind. No team shall ride the drill field before the start of competition. No

incendiary or explosive device will be utilized on or around the drill field. Any team not abiding by these rules shall be

disqualified.

 

Classes 16 – 25 exempt from all helmet rules.

 

D.     Time and Timekeepers (possible 5 points)

1.      Five Minute Minimum – Ten minute Maximum

2.      Time on field (deduct 5 points for under time or over time)

A maximum time limit of ten (10) minutes and a minimum of five (5) minutes will be allowed each Corps drilling

on the field. Timing and judging will start when the last man of the unit enters the field and end when any part of

any vehicle crosses any boundary of the Drill Field. An alarm will be given by the judge after five minutes has

elapsed and at the ten-minute period.

 

 

 

OBSTACLE COURSE

1.      Course to be run on time.

2.      Four men from each unit may participate. The combined time of the fastest two riders shall be the time for

 that unit.

3.      Two contestants cannot ride the same vehicle; it must be two riders and two vehicles.

4.      Each rider will be timed, starts as front wheel crosses starting line and ends as front wheel crosses the finish line.

5.      Vehicles must stop within a stopping lane of 15 feet for the 2-wheel course and 20 feet for

the 3 – and 4 – wheel course.

6.      Riders may walk carry his machine through the course; no demerits are assessed for foot or feet touching the ground.

7.      Riders moving a pylon shall be penalized by adding ten (10) seconds to his time for each pylon moved from its

original position and needs to be reset.

8.      If the rider does not follow the course pattern as laid out, he shall be disqualified.

9.      No rider shall ride the Obstacle Course before the start of the competition. Anyone doing so shall be disqualified,

however, all contestants shall be afforded an opportunity to walk the course prior to the competition.

10.  All riders must wear a DOT approved safety helmet.

11.  No Noble shall be permitted to compete in more then one class.

12.  All contestants and vehicles must have participated in the Personal and Equipment Inspections by the Judges.

13.  Trophies shall be awarded per registration as follows:

                   1 – 3 Teams – 2 Trophies

                   4 – or more Teams – 3 Trophies

 

No noble shall be permitted to compete in more than one class. All contestant and vehicles must have participated in

Personal and Equipment Inspections by judges.

 

SLOW RACE

Objective: To cover a given distance in the longest period of time.

1.      Course to run on time.

2.      Four men from each unit may participate. The combined time of the slowest two riders shall be the time for that unit.

3.      Two contestants cannot ride the same vehicle; it must be two riders and two vehicles.           

4.      Rider’s foot and/or feet may not touch the ground. If this occurs, time will stop at this point.

5.      Vehicle must proceed in a forward motion only. Weaving or zigzagging is permitted, but vehicles must not run

perpendicular to the direction of the course or rider is disqualified.

6.      Rider must stay within given boundaries of the course or area.

7.      Trophies shall be awarded per registration as follows:

                  1 – 3 Teams – 2 Trophies

                  4 – or more Teams – 3 Trophies

8.      Each rider will be timed from the front wheel crossing the starting line and stopping when any wheel touches the

finish line or any boundary line.

9.    The rider has the option of using a rolling start or from a stopped position.

10.  All riders must wear a DOT approved safety helmet.

11.  No Noble shall be permitted to compete in more than one class.

12.  All contestants and vehicles must have participated in the Personal and Equipment Inspections by the Judges.

13.  Event runs left to right.

14.  Dimensions for slow race will be:

                 40’ X 30’/30’ split.

 

 

ANTIQUE CARS AND TRUCKS

1.      Antique Cars – passenger vehicle

A.     Must be 25 years of age or older.

B.     Must be legally and properly registered.

2.      Antique Trucks – designed for carrying cargo other than passengers.

A.     Must be 25 years of age or older.

B.     Must be legally and properly registered.

3.      All competitors must wear the designated uniform of his unit.

4.      All competitors must display the M.A.A.S.M.C. Patch on his uniform.

5.      All competitors must wear a Fez for inspection.

6.      Trophies shall be awarded per registration as follows:

             1 – 3 entries – 2 trophies

             4 – or more entries – 3 trophies

 

CLASSIC CARS AND TRUCKS

1.      Classic Cars – passenger vehicle

A.     Must be 10 – 25 years of age.

B.     Must be legally and properly registered.

C.     Must be authentic.

2.      Classic Trucks – designed for carrying cargo other then passengers.

A.     Must be 10 – 25 years of age.

B.     Must be legally and properly registered.

C.     Must be authentic.

3.      All competitors must wear the designated uniform of his unit.

4.      All competitors must display the M.A.A.S.M.C. Patch on his uniform.

5.      All competitors must wear their Fez for inspection.

6.      Trophies shall be awarded per registration as follows:

             1 – 3 entries – 2 trophies

             4 – or more entries – 3 trophies

 

 

ANTIQUE & MODIFIED ANTIQUE MOTOR CYCLES

 

1.      Antique Motor Cycles

A.     Must be 21 years of age or older.  

   B.    Must be legally and properly registered for street use.

   C.    Must two or three wheel type.

2.      All competitors must wear the designated uniform of his unit.

3.      All competitors must display the M.A.A.S.M.C. Patch on his uniform.

4.      All competitors must wear their Fez for inspection.

5.      Trophies shall be awarded per registration as follows:

             1 – 3 entries – 2 trophies

             4 – or more entries – 3 trophies

 

 

CUSTOM MOTOR CYCLES

 

1.       Antique Motor Cycles

                         A.    Must be 20 years of age or newer.  

   B.    Must be legally and properly registered for street use.

   C.    Must two or three wheel type.

2.      All competitors must wear the designated uniform of his unit.

3.      All competitors must display the M.A.A.S.M.C. Patch on his uniform.

4.      All competitors must wear their Fez for inspection.

5.      Trophies shall be awarded per registration as follows:

             1 – 3 entries – 2 trophies

             4 – or more entries – 3 trophies

 

 

MOTOR CORPS TRAILERS

1.      Must represent an active Motor Corp.

2.      Must be an “18 wheel semi” trailer.

3.      Tractor will not be judged.

4.      All competitors must wear the designated uniform of his unit.

5.      All competitors must display the M.A.A.S.M.C. Patch on his uniform.

6.      All competitors must wear their Fez for inspection.

7.        Winner will be eligible for M.A.S.A. Parade.

 

 

                                                                     

 

 

 

                                    PAST PRESIDENT’S TROPHY

This year we will again be awarding an overall high – point award for drill competition. The Past President’s

Trophy will be presented to he highest scoring team from classes 1 through 15.
